Why does the kitchen breaker trip when the microwave runs?
Overload, most likely. A microwave pulls hard on startup, and if the toaster or the coffee maker sits on that same circuit, the breaker cuts power on purpose. An electrician can meter that line and say whether the kitchen needs a dedicated circuit.
I smell burning near an outlet. What now?
Shut that circuit off. Stop using the outlet, and if there is smoke or flame, everyone goes outside and you call 911 before anything else. Burning or buzzing at the panel itself belongs to your power utility, not to you.
Will the city want a permit?
