How much will a kitchen remodel cost?
Nobody here knows. The contractor gives that number after walking the galley, and it moves hard with the cabinets you pick. Ask each one how change orders get priced while you have them on the phone.
Do I need a permit to take out that wall?
Your building department decides that, and a load-bearing wall is exactly the kind of work they want on paper. Ask who pulls the permit, the contractor or you. Settle it before demo.
Can I live here while the kitchen is torn out?
Plan on eating out. A galley stripped to the studs takes the sink and the range with it, so ask which week the water goes off and where the saw gets set up. Ask about dust barriers too.
How firm do my plans need to be?
Firmer helps. A contractor prices a settled plan faster than a maybe, so bring rough dimensions and a photo of the wall you keep asking about. Say plainly what is still undecided.
